Felony theft charges dismissed after preliminary hearing.

Summary: This case originates from an alleged theft of a rental vehicle from the state of Texas. D.B. was a front-seat passenger in a rental vehicle that was reported stolen from the state of Texas. Upon spotting the vehicle, police initiated a traffic stop and determined that the rental vehicle had been reported by a rental company in the Houston, Texas area after the driver was alleged to have failed to make payments and/or renew the rental agreement for the vehicle. Upon arresting the driver and D.B., police searched the vehicle and located alleged stolen goods inside of the vehicle. After conducting a preliminary / committal hearing, the District Attorney’s Office was unable to establish venue and criminal intent regarding D.B.  As a result, all charges against D.B. were dismissed.
